ABRUZZO AT THE CENTER OF EUROPE, ITALY, AUTOMOTIVE.

The first edition of the Innovation Automotive Forum will be held on 9 and 10 May 2024, where Abruzzo wants to present its excellence and its system of skills; the event which will take place in the Foro Boario Exhibition Pavilion of the Chamber of Commerce of Chieti, in Abruzzo, a region where there is a hub dedicated to the automotive sector which constitutes a reality of great importance in Italy and throughout Europe.

The automotive sector is the beating heart of the regional economy, with an industrialization rate of 27%, in line with the northern regions and decidedly higher than the Italian average.

The sector generates 8 billion in turnover in Abruzzo, employs 23,000 workers and registers significant growth in terms of exports amounting to around 48%.

In the heart of Abruzzo, in the province of Chieti, there is the Automotive & Mechatronic Valley, or Val di Sangro, where many of the related companies are concentrated and where the Automotive Innovation Hub is based, a network of globalized and public organizations – large industries, small and medium-sized enterprises, universities and research centers – which operate in the automotive and mechanical sectors: automotive industry, subcontracting, components, engineering.

Two international excellences stand out in this territory:
• Stellantis Europe Spa Atessa (formerly Sevel); has been producing the best-selling light commercial vehicle in Europe since 1981 (Ducato, etc.). It represents 12% of European LCV production and 90% of Italian production.
• Honda Italia Industriale Spa, founded in 1971 in Atessa – the only Honda manufacturing site in Europe for two-wheelers that is growing in terms of production and employment.

In addition to the two large companies mentioned above, there are other large companies and SMEs with technologies and skills ready to take up the challenge of new mobility systems and the automotive sector as a whole and this constitutes an important development driver for the immediate future of region and the entire nation. For these reasons, Abruzzo is a candidate to become an automotive hub of international caliber, with a development potential guaranteed by the challenging synergies that could be triggered between SMEs and large companies, Universities and ITS Academy and the Abruzzo Region.
